Scribe Session 3.31.14: Advanced Stats Edition

The podcast tour continues this week as I reach out to Wisconsin and Pro Football Focus Bengals correspondent and media liason Jake Liscow.

What we saw during free agency was the latest wave of acceptance of advance stats in pro football. PFF has served as the leader of that movement. They break down the video of every game and every player to excruciating detail. Jake does a fantastic job with the Bengals ratings, grades and advanced stats.

We chat about the evolution of advanced football stats, interesting analysis on Bengals players, I played audio from Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis in Orlando and we take on the Andy Dalton topic.

Much thanks to Jake for taking time to join me on the phone and make sure you head over to check out his work and all the great football coverage at Pro Football Focus.

Scribe Session 3.14.14: Mo Egger Edition

In the first post-Joe Reedy edition of Scribe Session I hit the road for Montgomery to chat with ESPN1530/700 sports radio host Mo Egger.

We run the gamut of news topics to hit the Bengals this week including the flurry of free agency, loss of Anthony Collins, missteps with Andrew Hawkins and thoughts on the intriguing question about extending Andy Dalton.

We also discuss Mo's fanboy obsession with Bruce Springsteen, Cliff's Notes Vegas stories and the Real Housewives of Kenwood.

Scribe Session 2.28.14: Pass The Torch Edition

In the final podcast for Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy before he moves home to join Fox Sports Ohio covering the Indians, the torch is officially passed to now full-time Bengals beat writer Paul Dehner Jr.

For the first 30 minutes we discuss the state of the Bengals as Reedy leaves the beat after five years, the outlook on free agency, the draft and next season. In the final 45 minutes we run down the best of Scribe Session, including counting down our top five moments in a year of weekly ridiculousness.

In the final 10 minutes Reedy offers his final farewell to readers, co-workers and everyone else he came across during his 8 1/2 years at The Enquirer and signs off in the only fitting way we can.

Thanks to everyone who listened, fear not, the podcast will continue to go on as Joe moves forward. Keep an eye out for the next wave of Scribe Session in the coming weeks.

Scribe Session 2.18.14: Breaking News Edition

Bengals Enquirer beat writers Paul Dehner Jr. and Joe Reedy look at the NFL Combine, free agency and the team's focus this offseason.

More importantly, beginning at the 46:30 mark, Joe makes a game-changing announcement and we discuss. Of course, we drop the news as we often like to do at Scribe Session, through the majesty of song. You won't want to miss this.

Scribe Session 2.4.14: Dan Hoard Edition

Bengals Enquirer beat writer Paul Dehner Jr. takes the helm of the offseason podcast with Joe Reedy enjoying deserved vacation time. For this episode we bring in voice of the Bengals and Bearcats Dan Hoard.

Dan has been the play-by-play voice for the Bengals since 2011 as well as hosting numerous weekly radio shows in season on the Bengals Radio Network.

We discuss the Super Bowl, if the Bengals could follow the Seattle blueprint, offseason needs, draft possibilities and the direction of the team under two new coordinators.

I also flip the script on Dan's fantastic regular feature Fantastic Fun Facts. Instead of Dan interviewing players, coaches and even owner Mike Brown about their interest and lives away from the field, I unearth all the stories behind Mr. Hoard.

Needless to say: Gold, Jerry, Gold.

Scribe Session 1.14.14: Offseason Change Edition

Bengals Enquirer beat writers Paul Dehner Jr. and Joe Reedy enter into the world of offseason podcasts by discussing the move of former OC Jay Gruden to Washington and promotion of Hue Jackson. They also take a look at DC Mike Zimmer and Minnesota.

We hear Hue Jackson talking about his relationship in pushing Andy Dalton and dedication to the running game.

We also experience our first podbomb as Reds beat writer C. Trent Rosecrans pops in for a few minutes, Pink Floyd scripts the first 15 plays and we allow readers to hear their concerning rage out loud.

Scribe Session 1.7.14: Ugly Aftermath Edition

Bengals Enquirer beat writers Paul Dehner Jr. and Joe Reedy enter in the aftermath of the team's devastating first-round playoff loss to San Diego to discuss the fallout as the organization moves forward.

We hear from quarterback under fire Andy Dalton, coach under fire Marvin Lewis and sought after offensive coordinator Jay Gruden about what went wrong and what the future holds.

Of course, what would Scribe Session be without the Reedy Railroad, music from each of the last four decades and the brutal truth of the rubble left behind of Chargers 27, Bengals 10.
